Police believe Veronica Sauels, who had three daughters, was one victim in her husband's crime spree across Oak Cliff.
Police say Ranji Alix Charles, 41, fled the scene of an accident and then returned to a gas station with two men. There, they believe he shot Corey Shannon, 33, his childhood friend and business acquantaince, who he may have believed was having an affair with his wife.
Police say he then went home and shot his 33-year-old wife once in the face. Her children found her when they woke up the next morning. They told police that the couple had been fighting for a week because Charles believed his wife was cheating on him.
Sauels had previously applied for a protective order, which expired the year before she died.
“Ranji is a violent man with a gun and I fear that he will take my life if I do not receive protection,” Sauels wrote in 2011 when she applied for the protective order. “I have three young children that need me, therefore I refuse to lose my life to domestic violence.”
Her daughters, 5, 11 and 13, are staying with family.
