Vanessa Pitofsky never reported domestic abuse during her marriage to Nick Pitofsky, a 47-year-old Crandall police officer. But she had recently reduced her social media time to counteract her husband’s increasing jealousy. “Now, I won’t get blamed for stupid insecurities,” she told a friend.
Police say Nick Pitofsky shot her in their home in Dallas' Cedars neighborhood and then turned the gun on himself. Police discovered their bodies after one of Vanessa Pitofsky's coworkers called 911 because she hadn't shown up for work.
Vanessa Pitofsky was a bank employee who friends say ran half marathons and often posted photos of her cooking on Facebook. She and her husband were also active in supporting law enforcement.
Nick Pitofsky, a gun enthusiast, had no disciplinary history in his six years as a licensed peace officer, according to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. There were also no allegations of domestic abuse in his past.
