Francisco Vaquier killed Nov. 9, 2014

Police say Francisco Vaquier, 41, died after his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend came over to his apartment and shot him.

Police don't know why 42-year-old Mauro Ramos Cruz, who had begun dating the woman and was living with her at her apartment in the same complex, came to Vaquier's apartment, but they believe he was motivated by jealousy.

Mesquite police spokesman Brian Parrish said authorities aren't aware of any altercation between Vaquier and his ex that would have sparked a confrontation with her new boyfriend. Police believe the men were alone when Cruz allegedly shot Vaquier, who was found with gunshot wounds to the head in the living room, which was "within eyeshot of the front door," Parrish said.

He said it appears that "the suspect was jealous because of the relationship between the victim and the suspect's current girlfriend."

Police arrested Cruz several days after the shooting, on Nov. 12, when their investigation led them to Old East Dallas, where they spotted him attempted to blend in with a group of day laborers.
