When Dallas police responded to a shooting call, officers found Bobby Jones, 27, injured with multiple gunshot wounds and saw a black Bersa .380 caliber pistol on the ground next to a large pool of blood in the front yard.
Witnesses told police that Jones and his roommate, Larry Charles Lampkins, 59, had been in an argument over money that Lampkin received from selling an engine from Jones’ vehicle. The witnesses said Lampkins left after shooting Jones, according to the arrest affidavit.
Police tracked Lampkins' green Ford F150 truck and conducted a traffic stop. Officers found a gun behind the drivers seat.
“I was going to turn myself in,” Lampkins told police, adding that he thought Jones was going to shoot him.
The next day, Jones died at Baylor Hospital.
